The product is a rare vintage aviation pennant from 1938 featuring Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan, a historic aviator known for his transatlantic flight from New York to Ireland in 1938. The pennant is designed in green and carries the word "Welcome, " from the reception Corrigan received upon his unexpected landing in Ireland after claiming to have flown in the wrong direction. Corrigan claimed his unauthorized transatlantic flight was due to anavigational error, caused by heavy cloud cover that obscured landmarks and low-light conditions, causing him to misread hiscompass. However, Captain Corrigan was a skilled aircraft mechanicwho helped construct Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis and had made several modifications to his own plane, preparing it for his transatlantic flight.
He had been denied permission to make a nonstop flight from New York to Ireland, and his "navigational error" was seen as deliberate. Nevertheless, he never publicly admitted to having flown to Ireland intentionally. The pennant measures approximately 29" x 11", and roughly 34 including the ties.
The condition can be seen in the pictures, and I'm glad to provide additional photos/information on request.
