Peterson 1948 Premier Selection Pre-Republic Billiard Birdseye Grain Pipe

  
Wonderfully preserved 75 year old pipe. Terrific cross grain and Birdseye grain. P lip mouthpiece is in good shape (may be a replacement). One of the finest and oldest pipes in my collection, and a wonderful smoking pipe. I've enjoyed owning a piece of functional art and history. Nomenclature: right side: Petersons premier selectIon. Left side: made in Ireland. Left side near bowl 106.

From a fifty year collection of an avid pipe collector - now scaling back for retirement. Lighters, Smoker's Ephemera and Incredible pipes of finest makers from England, Ireland, Italy, Scandinavia, and the USA. Most are 20+ years old. The Patent Era was between the year of K&P's formation - 1875 through approximately 1922. Later in this period, around 1915/16, Peterson began stamping their pipes "Made in Ireland" in a block format. 2 The Irish Free State was formed on 15 January 1922. So the Free State Era will be from 1922 through 1937. So Peterson changed the COM stamp to "Irish Free State" in one or two lines. 3 Since Eire was formed on 29 December 1937, the "Made in Eire" Era will be from 1938 through roughly 1940?

4 Later they stamped their pipes with "Made in Ireland" in a circle format 1945? And still later with "Made in Ireland" in a block format 1947? The "Made in Ireland" block format came in one line or two lines.

5 The Republic Era is from 1949 until the present. The Republic of Ireland was formed on 17 April 1949. From 1949 to present the stamp for this era is "Made in the Republic of Ireland" in a block format.
