HERE HE WRITES A LETTER TO FELLOW BOTANIST, TAXONOMIST AND EDITOR OF THE GARDENERS' CHRONICLE ABOUT A "MONTROUS PIMPERNEL". 16, 1862, on his personal "Acton Green Turnham Green, London" letterhead, by the English botanist, gardener, and orchidologist who worked, for a short time, as an assistant in Sir Joseph Banks herbarium and was appointed chair of botany at University College, London (1829-60). He wrote many scientific and popular works and botanical textbooks as well as making significant contributions to the Botanical Register , of which he was the editor for many years, and to the Gardeners' Chronicle , where he was in charge of the horticultural department. The fig 153 represents a monstrous Pimpernel sent me by Boughton Kingdon, & mentioned in the Gardeners' Chronicle May 11, 1844.
