A superb collection of 10 original albumen photographs of the Kemmis siblings, and their mother, of Killeen in County Laois, Ireland, taken at different times between approx. A total of 10 original albumen photographs, all clipped from an album with paper backing.Undated but taken over the period 1858-64 (extracted from an Anglo-Irish album containing photographs from this period). The smaller photographs with MS ink captions with sitter's name on mount below, and the larger photograph with clipped pen and ink signature on mount below and crest above. The majority artistically corner clipped, the large photograph in oval format.
Light fading / age-toning to extremities, but in general the tones are very good to excellent. Size: 7 of CDV size - 8.75cm x 5.5cm, 2 slightly larger, and 1 of 19.7cm x 14.6cm The Kemmis sisters were all born to William and Ellen Kemmis, a landed Irish family.
Their mother Ellen is pictured top left in the montage of 5 photos, and their baby brother William is sitting on the lap of his eldest sister Elizabeth (Lizzy). The final two CDVs are of two of their other brothers. There were four brothers in total, however only William lived beyond the 1860s, as all the rest died as children or young adults.
