Two unusual European cabinet card albumen photographic portraits, of Miss Lecky as a marble bust by Le Lieure of Rome, and Fanny Pepova with her back to the lens by Frois of Biarritz, circa 1880s. Two original cabinet cards, comprising albumen photographic portraits laid on card, with photographer's printed details verso and recto respectively. Both extracted from the same album: one with album paper backing, and the other with paper residue on verso where skimmed from the album page. Undated but circa 1880s (extracted from an Anglo-Irish album containing photographs from this period). MS caption with sitter's name on mount of one, and clipped MS name on verso of the other.

Some fading and age-toning to the Lecky photograph, and light scattered spotting to bottom. Otherwise photographs in presentable conditionnd bottom of the rear of the card, where previously affixed in an album. The portrait of Miss Lecky as a marble bust is an enigma: is this some form of Victorian trick photography with the subject's profile superimposed on an image of a statue, or is it a photo of an actual bust? The photograph of Ms Pepova is unusual in that she is standing in profile with her back angled towards the lens, presumably to highlight the elaborate rear of what seems to be a wedding dress. Provenance: From the Anglo-Irish photograph album of Elizabeth Alexander Shaw, daughter of William John Alexander-Shaw.
